Walthamstow Stadium

Since the iconic stadium was bought by London & Quadrant in 2008, Iain has fought hard to save the dog track and to prevent L&Q from building a housing development on the site. L&Q have so far refused to sell the site, despite opposition to their plans by the vast majority of Chingford & Walthamstow residents, and despite it having been proven that they will make a substantial loss of taxpayers’ money if they go ahead with their plans. August 2011 riots

Waltham Forest is home to some violent gangs and the area was hit by the August 2011 riots, in which shops in Chingford and elsewhere were looted. Iain has been working closely with Chris Robbins (Waltham Forest Council Leader) and others at the Council on their anti-gangs strategy. He recently arranged a press conference at the House of Commons in order to publicise the Borough’s anti-gangs programme and encourage discussion from other Boroughs. Iain has been involved in a number of campaigns in South Woodford recently against anti-social behaviour problems caused by late-night establishments such as Funky Mojoe’s, the Vault and the Napier Arms. Iain recently hosted a very well-attended public meeting to discuss the issue and he is hosting another on Friday 20th July, 5pm-7pm, at St Mary’s Church on South Woodford High Road. A telecoms company has made a planning application to erect a phone mast on The Green in Chingford, very near St Anthony’s Primary School and lots of homes.
